«Cleansing should be started from the Kremlin…»
Exclusive
interview of General Representative of Chechen Republic of Ichkeria (CRI)
in Georgia Hizri Aldamov to Kavkaz Center news agency.

Apparently, the so-called «Chechen factor» along with the unsettled Abkhaz
problem has become a determining factor in Russian-Georgian relations. Unfortunately,
the outlined trends do not allow talking about the speedy weakening of the
pressure from Moscow on Tbilisi in this regard. Is this so?
H. Aldamov: The weakest spot in Russia’s neocolonial policies in Caucasus
is the fear of integration of Georgia and Ichkeria. Our people have many
things in common. In case such integration is implemented, we would have
received the mightiest union in Caucasus, which would have been able to handle very many economic, political and defense tasks. And this is why Russia in afraid of this unification and doing all it can in order not to allow such a way for the situation to develop.
- Not too long ago many Chechens, including the ones in Georgia
were giving an optimistic evaluation to a possible influence from the West
on putting an end to the Russian aggression against CRI. Today that optimism
is no longer around. Why do you think this is the case?
H. Aldamov: It is very unfortunate that in this war, just as in the last war, the West is helping Russia
to conduct the war of extermination of the Chechen state and Chechen people.
Verbally there are individual moments of concern when Moscow was condemned. But no more than that. In reality however, the West is virtually financing Russia’s aggression against Chechnya. Everybody knows it full well. Russian troops are fighting in Chechnya
by using the money from the West. And the humanitarian aid is mainly going
to the invaders and their accomplices. Refugees only get leftovers, but even
from that the authorities are trying to boost a lot of pro-Western propaganda.
-
The West is making more and more hints that the fight of the Chechen people
for their freedom and independence is «terrorism» and that Russia is encountering a «manifestation of international terrorism» in Chechnya.
H. Aldamov:
As it seems to us, it is quite the opposite. The West is actually joining
Russian (the Kremlin’s) terrorism and losing its decency in its own eyes
as well as in the eyes of the entire world. So-called Western democratic
values are fully associated with Russian barbarianism and violence against
the defenseless. As a result, our civilizations got one more step farther
apart from each other. Such policies only suppress the will for freedom among
«subordinate nations» and legalize war criminals, as Russian leaders are
in this case. Such policies will not lead to anything good.
At the
turn of the 400 years of the defensive war of the Chechen people for their
right to be living in their land, they are trying to label us as terrorists
and as a breeding ground for terrorism. But who has ever given such a right
to make statements like that? In this case histories of all national liberation
movements must be reconsidered. Including the history of the US. According to this logic, the US is the fruit of terrorist aspirations of isolated groups of the population in a former British colony.
Those who claim that the true breeding ground and the true sources of terrorism are in Russia
(in the Kremlin rather) are right a thousand times. The Kremlin’s terrorism
– this is the main threat to the world and to the stability in the world.
The realization of this fact, which has been known to everybody for quite
a while, will sooner or later lead to the logic need to start a cleansing
in the Kremlin.
- How predictable do you think is the perspective of Georgian-Chechen relations?
H. Aldamov:
The future has already come. The process of purification and revival of the
Chechen nation is under way. The generation of tomorrow has been determined.
It is courageous with high morals, it is not infected with the falsehood
of ideologies of the past, it is more steadfast against hardships, and more
patriotic.
A similar process is going on in Georgia, although it is less noticeable from the outside. A new young generation is growing in Georgia that saw nothing good from Russia
except for constant threats of bombings, blackmail, provocations, terrorism
and undermining activities. Georgian youth is getting unfamiliar with slavish
mental attitude and they clearly realize and see who is pulling their country
back into the disgraceful stall under Moscow’s new yoke. I think that the government of Georgia, represented by the president, sees this process and makes proper corrections to their policies.
In other words, Chechnya and Georgia
are getting up from their knees. Instigation and provocations from the outside
may only do a job for a little while. Russians will never manage to disrupt
the way of life that was formed throughout the history or to disrupt the
objective process of liberation of Caucasus from foreign invasion. I am convinced of it.
In spite of all hard ordeals that befell our people, we are looking into the future with optimism. And worthy sons of Georgia
are helping us in it. Every day we are feeling their help and their support.
All you have to do is recall their participation in defending the rights
of the Chechens whom the authorities want to extradite under the pressure
from Russia. Georgian society has a great deal of sympathy for the Chechen people. And it gives us strength and hope.
