SRINAGAR, April 13: Indian troops overnight shot dead a freedom fighter trying to cross into occupied Kashmir, while six people were killed elsewhere, officials said on Tuesday.

It was the first killing along the Line of Control since Pakistan and India agreed to a ceasefire last November, an official said. We have foiled an infiltration bid by militants by killing one of them, while two to three managed to flee, an army spokesman said.

He said the slain man was a Pakistani and was killed by Indian troops after he was sighted near the LoC. The infiltration was reported from Tangdar sector of northern Kupwara district, the spokesman said.

Suspected Mujahideen, meanwhile, shot dead three civilians in Srinagar, and southern Doda and Anantnag districts on Tuesday, police said. An Indian army soldier was killed and another injured when Mujahideen ambushed their patrol in Baramulla on Tuesday, police said.

Indian troops killed two Kashmiris during two encounters in central Budgam district overnight, police said, adding that two Indian army soldiers were injured in one of the gun battles.
