Serbian Military Launches Huge Offensive in Podujeva Area
PRISHTINA, March 22 (KIC) - Serbian military and paramilitary police forces resumed today morning, at 8:30 CET, shelling several villages in the municipality of Podujeva, some of which had been pounded during the night also. The shelling of Sallabajë, Godishnjak, Penuhë, Buricë, Konushevc, Llapashticë, Obrançë e Katunishtë was being carried out from Serbian positions at Dumosh, at 'Tabet e Llapashticës', in Peran as well as from military positions along the Prishtina- Podujeva highway. Reports that could not be immediately confirmed spoke of killed Albanians in the village of Buricë. LDK sources in Podujeva told the KIC at 14:30 CET smoke was billowing from the attacked villages, such as Buricë, Konushec, Gllamnik and Llapashticë e Poshtme. Llapashticë has been under heavy Serbian shelling from 'Tabet e Llapashticës', they said. There has been no immediate word on the consequences. Meanwhile, a Serbian shell hit two Albanian houses in the village of Sfeçël, an area previously unaffected by the Serbian offensive in the Podujeva area. Part of the village people have fled their homes. Reports said Serbian snipers have taken up positions in the village school at Gllamnik, just south of Podujeva, which straddles the Prishtina-Podujeva highway. The population of Dumosh, where an airfield has been turned into a Serb military base for months now, have fled their homes, and seeking refugee in the villages of Balloc, Lladoc, Shajkoc and other villages still unaffected by the ongoing warfare. The movement of the population in the municipality has been made virtually impossible - at least highly dangerous - as Serb forces have been sniping the communications routes, including back roads. A grave situation has been reported in the town of Podujeva, home to 20,000 Albanians, whose population has been further swollen by arrivals, people displaced from their homes in the villages. A huge Serbian police presence has been reported in the northern Kosovar town. |
